Girl and Girl show their garage punk teeth on "White Tiles"

"my family's gone, they've been buried without me"

There is nothing like having a bit of an existential crisis flat on your back laying on cold white kitchen tiles. In truth, I might be interjecting a bit of myself in that thought but Kai James from the Aussie garage punk outfit Girl and Girl did, in fact, write the track "White Tiles" pondering the meaning of life (and death) as he describes: “It’s basically a nonchalant existential crisis ” Says front man Kai James, “and I wrote it on the white tiled floor of my ex-Brisbane granny flat, one stupidly hot afternoon when I was feeling rather impartial to all things life and death.”

The band hailing from Currumbin Valley in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, the 4 piece band is set to release their debut 2021 EP "A Typical Friday" Night (Shame, Sex and Misery) but back to "White Tiles". From the onset, there is a jagged sort of proto punk vibe that feels gleefully like a throwback to iconic late 70's punk / new wave bands like Television, like Gang of Four. Maybe it is James vocal aesthetic that is artfully broad and dark. The song is a thrasher and conjures up the image of dark venues and young people moshing to their hearts content getting happy bruises along the way. The track absolutely kills.

"I'm so nice, now I'm dead"
