Mo Klé and the empowering folk rock, punk edged "Be My Judge" (Official Video)

"you may say I'm just my father's child..."

I have to say I adore Mo Klé and the garden rock wanderlust punk patina of "Be My Judge". This is my first introduction to Swiss songwriter René Grünenfelder, aka Mo Klé and while his sound is described as folk rock, I think his dense sonic blend is richer than that umbrella term conjures up. "Be My Judge" has a vast sound, a deep drum and bass groove and his folk rock grandeur is bolstered by garden rock edges, country and western affections all pushed forward with a post punk degree of attack and immediacy. Love, love, love Grünenfelder's earthy, sort of busker croon with his passionate grit and wail. In so many ways, here, on this track he reminds me of Kevin Morby, the Morby as solo artist and as part of the Babies. Totally impressed.

Press notes offer:

[At first glance, the lyrics of “Be My Judge” deals with the stereotyping and prejudices. Grünenfelder sings in the chorus “Just judge me for what I do and not for who I am”. "We judge other people far too much on the basis of superficialities instead of their actions and form opinions without really knowing the other person," says Grünenfelder about the background of the song. He also reveals a second interpretation. "I only understood after some time that the song is also an appeal to myself to accept myself and my mistakes and not to be too hard with myself," explains Grünenfelder. So the song also describes the fight against one's own negative voice. The song aims to give self-doubts a proper punch.

To accompany this new single Mo Klé has relased a new music video. The video was made by Siriam Drobik and Remo Schmidheiny from the St. Gallen based studio.töricht and was filmed at Totalbar in Zurich. It shows a random guy at a bar dancing wildly. The scene is a symbol of not letting others judge you and just doing your thing. In the current gloomy times we are living in .The recordings seem to be a post card from the past and give us all hope to be able to dance freely through the night again soon!]

I look forward to learning more about Mo Klé and René Grünenfelder's songs.
