phobia quartet and the heavy pop indie rock sheen of "Windmill"

"I wore this shirt way too much..."

The heavy indie pop rock sheen of phobia quartet's "Windmill" has a gravitational pull. It might be the huge sound bolstered by thick synth bass tones, or the catchy sliding guitar melodies, or the way the beat supports it all but the glossy, cool sound turned my head like a 1956 Corvette C1 driving down the street. I, in fact, usually like more raw sounds but when the vocal aesthetic done up with an effected wash flows in I feel an indie rock blend of Death Cab / Silversun Pickups / Ok Go. Maybe because there is a surreal sense here with bits of broad pop and smaller bits of emo. The plastic drops here don't negate the flesh and bones reality. As shiny as "Windmill" sounds it seems to be about the steady, deathly decay of a relationship when that sheen has stripped away. Heavy.
