Sunniva and the soulful psychedelic sunset of "True lies"

"cut from a rug that I didn't choose you get nervous from a smile, then dance to the blues..."

"True Lies" from Frederick, Maryland based Sunniva, and off of their debut full length album "Essence & Illusion", reminds me of serenely cutting up waves at sunset decades ago. The aesthetic is chill indie rock graced with psychedelic folk affections sprinkled with light jazz and funky diversions. It moves easily, ascends in comfortable but surprising places, swaps tempos, dazzles with flute breakdowns and dreams with a bass line that mirrors those past sun casts of light on water. Danniel Knight's vocal aesthetic is tender and soulful.  Best of all it is devoid of current indie tropes and does not sound like Tame Impala, The Strokes, Billie Eilish, Weezer or Imagine Dragons. Win win.
