Women Of The Night and the folk rock / post punk embrace of "Lonesome Love"

"I know exactly what you need, I can get it to you 24 hours a day..."

The amazing folk rock / post punk sway of Women Of The Night's wanderlusty "Lonesome Love" somehow feels like an amalgam of Kevin Morby, The Gun Club, The Plimsouls and Mazzy Star (seriously). Jordan D’Arsie (guitar, vox) and Kyubae Lee (drums) know how to stagger you with slide guitars, iconic beats, expressive harmonies and musical narratives that surprise while pushing nostalgic buttons. The Brooklyn duo's upcoming sophomore album "Sub Rosa" drops in late June 2021 on Declared Goods and on vinyl from UK label Heavy Soul. Such a departure from "Open All Night" that I recently reviewed (click HERE) and likened the proto punkish . garage rock sounds to "Dave Clark Five on heroin". Digging the differences on "Lonesome Love", the variety that these guys provide, Women of the Night continue to surprise and delight me.
