Finland based Bottoms Up, the experimental electric bass duo consisting of Mats Ödahl and Jonas Kuhlberg, have crafted a smashed up amalgam of 8 Bit, synthwave, jazztronica, and arcade pop within "Bass Arcade". Bass is the operative word here because the production is wrapped around two heavily processed electric basses. Their intent was to capture the essence of old arcade video games and they have succeeded. For me, it slips into my psyche and goes to comfortable hyper places, it feels nostalgic while feeling proggresively wrought. The musicality here elevates what feels like a pop hug by a goofy stubborn ape.
