Boy Willows and the lush folk pop animation of "Fila and Friends" featuring Alisa Xayalith

"lucky if I make it out alive..."

Listening to "Fila and Friends" by Boy Willows, the moniker of Landon Fleischman, a young singer songwriter and creator / artist who swims in experimental folk waters, so much so that a lot of his material might not scream folk (even experimental folk) as much as indie pop or a hybridization of the many genres, along with the additional amazing vocal talents of Alisa Xayalith (The Naked and Famous) cuts into your heart in tender ways. The sonic textures rumble and snap in ultra lush ways. The dream he creates with Alisa feels like a multi-colored stroll through a 1960's Disney film meets animation fantasy.

Press note context:

Last year, Landon released "Fila (feat. Dylan Minnette of Wallows)" and "I Love It When You Talk." This year, he returned with three singles – "No Contest," a "low-key vibe of R&B with hazy sun-lit pop melodies" [Under The Radar], "Tuff," an ironic take on the perception of self when faced with the challenges of reality, and "Yello House," a lo-fi pop track defined by warm, warping guitars. Elsewhere on the EP, Landon reunites with Minette + additional vocals from friend Alisa Xayalith (The Naked and Famous) on "Fila and Friends.

"I wrote my verse for ‘Fila’ during a very transitional and fragile period in my life. I felt like I was stuck in a loop of catastrophizing and bouts of self-imposter syndrome when making important decisions in my career. Landon's lyric - 'Runnin' runnin' runnin' round in circles' was the perfect launch pad to explore this idea. During times like these, the friends I have around me remind me of who I am when I can't see the forest for the trees. It takes a while before things start making sense, and you begin to see yourself in a more positive light" – Alisa Xayalith.

"'Fila' has always been about envy of youth and anger at aging. It's surreal and dreamy, really out of the body, so I wanted to lean into that this time. The new perspective that Alisa's verse brought to this track was exactly what it needed; this is a more honest Fila because of her" - Landon Fleischman.

“Landon first played me the song when we were sharing a tour bus together. It was only about 30 seconds long at the time and I immediately was so inspired by it and I told him I thought he should extend it because it’s so great. He asked me if I wanted to throw on a verse myself and my little warm heart exploded” – Dylan Minnette.
