Dolly Dirtbag and the surreal crystal dream of "All This Time"

"I still hear her laugh, I still hear her cry, she was a fire fly..."

Dolly Dirtbag is the moniker, alter ego, art performance persona of L.A. based avant-pop songwriter, producer and clothing designer Olivia Hauser and "All This Time" from DD's recently released debut album, "Slug Dreams", is terribly dreamy but goes beyond that description. It feels like fantasy pop, surreal and somewhat mystical but with a beautiful commercial ultra pop feel while still feeling obtuse. The sense here drawn with synthetic orchestrations, otherworldly ambience, the full big wash of a church cathedral and Hauser's beautiful voice, earnest and somber feels like something that could of graced 1984 iconic The Neverending Story. It may be the tenderness, the child-like nature free of cynicism, the Giorgio Moroder bell tones, the 80's esque vocoder / mellotron touches and the broad wide eyed beauty that floats somewhere between the iconic artists Cyndi Lauper and Kate Bush. Hauser shares that “All This Time,” "is a melancholy, nostalgic song about yearning for and mourning the loss of a younger, more perfect version of yourself."

"Slug Dreams" pushes Dolly Dirtbag's "signature electronic production style, catchy melodies and an affinity for processed or altered vocals. Its eclectic influences include Kate Bush, Caroline Polachek, Mitski, Oneohtrix Point Never and SOPHIE".

Dream on.

Dolly Dirtbag is a loose collection of personalities and the musical and artistic alter-ego of Olivia Hauser, an LA-based avant-pop songwriter and producer. Dolly is at times bratty, at times wistful, at times enraged and her songs range from dreamy ballads to experimental sound poems to high energy pop, all with electronic production, catchy melodies and an affinity for processed or altered vocals. Her diverse influences include Kate Bush, Caroline Polachek, Mitski, Oneohtrix Point Never, SOPHIE and late 90s Eurodance/pop-infused trance.
