Sweetheart in Dutch and the dream stirring dystopian pop of "Machine" and “Dark Clouds” (Official Video)

In "Dark Clouds" and "Machine", Sweetheart in Dutch continues to darken the landscape of dystopian pop. The music project of music writer, songwriter, musician, vocalist Alyssa Holland pushes on machine beats that act as metallic sounding engines and drones of sound enhanced by surprising analog twists like a wailing melancholy saxophone on "Machine". When I listen to the dark sounds with my eyes closed I imagine stark images, sometimes inter-dimensional, sometimes people with poetic faces in a 1979 German punk club getting lost in the sounds. 

"Dark Clouds" with the accompanying video of Los Angeles in repose especially has a pulp science fiction feel. I imagine what an inventive and enterprising screenwriter would come up with stewing in Sweetheart in Dutch's sonic world. Holland's vocal aesthetic is smooth, hiding sharp edges and sometimes has faint grasps of spoken words, I mean just barely that adds emotional gravitas to the performance (again I come back to "Machine") like some sleauth a dark angelic detective is playing over clues, evidence of bad things over and over in her mind. 

Self recorded and produced by Holland and mastered by Geza X (Black Flag, the Bags, Germs), these songs are part of a full album which is set for a Fall 2021 release, "encapsulating dystopian turmoil and sociological conundrums". As a solo project, the single and album feature SiD on all instruments and vocals.
