Mata Kopa and the deep dive artful indie alt rock currents of "Deep End"

"heading for the deep end..."

Mata Kopa based out of Gothenburg, Sweden recently released their EP "Go Buy the Sun" and the track "Deep End" is "about breaking out of the comfort zone and taking a chance on the unknown, knowing that it could either make or break you." The track is a heady mix of indie rock tones with textures that feel both post rock and post punk with progressive touches. Loving the shifting and staggered downbeats mirrored by Miranda Raeder's vocal aesthetic and Boris Grubesic's seriously lush, punchy and diverse artful guitar work. The sunlit backing vox feel majestic and because of the dreamy textures and forward thinking construction, I flashed on artists like Porches, MGMT, Bjork, The Joy Formidable and, for some reason, the iconic prog band Yes or an artful amalgam of all of them.

Mata Kopa began in Gothenburg 2015 as a garagy rock quartet under the more earthly name Tellus Children. After releasing their debut album and touring Sweden as well as different parts of Europe in 15’ and 16’, the project's composers Miranda Raeder and Boris Grubesic have changed base to Stockholm, gone back to school, started new jobs, traveled and focused on writing new material.

The new upcoming EP ’Go Buy the Sun’ is a reflection of that transition period. Recorded at Mälarhöjden Social Club in Stockholm, as well as in Boris and Miranda’s apartment, 'Go Buy the Sun' combines playful arrangements with distinctive melodies and atmospheric soundscapes.

Oh you know you want to!
