"they cry like violins..."
Warren Cockrell, the musical moniker of Dillon Warren Cockrell, is an American singer-songwriter / producer and the track "A Head Squeeze" from his debut album "Sleeping Well Is Easy" is a dramatic piece of work, sweeping, cinematic and broken. Key to the emotional mayhem is Cockrell's raspy vocal emotionalism that seems to transition from anxiety to pain to a dark unraveling. The music doesn't give him comfort either but prods and pulls with tense stabs of sound, heavy bass lines, orchestral aches and a demanding forward falling shifting drum beat. There are other emotional cues, caustic dissonance perpetuated by blips and sort of electronic ambiance.
Cockrell hails from Brooklyn, New York but spent his his formative years in Georgetown, Texas, a place he described to be “very happy but pretty boring”. You can delve into "Sleeping Well Is Easy" via the Bandcamp link below.
