Little Oil and the psychedelic melancholy bonfire of "Big Mistake"

"oh, the balance that you seek has knocked you off your feet..."

"Big Mistake" is the closer on Little Oil's self titled debut album and with it's descending sadness and garden party sort of porch country-esque simplicity that floats up like psychedelic ashes at a Neil Young meets Sparklehorse bonfire it is, at once, so incredibly beautiful and heartwarming in it's melancholia.

Little Oil is the musical moniker of Mexico City born, San Francisco based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Victor Mitrani (and cohorts) and as I wrote weeks before when reflecting on the track "Through the Trees" I said that there "is something this side of late 60's Northern California hippies and downstream of the Mississippi woven through porch blues psychedelia. It feels like better times when you could have fun on five dollars and your entertainment might be stargazing instead of looking at your phone" and that vibrancy tied to organic tones, to nature, to real human connections is felt here as well.

Check out the debut "Little Oil" by Little Oil and get lost in other tracks too like "So I Called His Name" with it's chain gang amble and street preacher ramble or the blinding runaway beauty of "First Wave" or the lo-fi busker punk twisting dance strains of "San Jose". There is something for everyone existing in scratchy black and white or widescreen color like the sun riddled memories cutting through tree branches on a languid car ride.

A San Francisco Bay Area songwriter musician that finally fulfilled his creative urge to be the totalitarian dictator of his musical world and go solo with his self titled debut album. A lover of punk, classic rock, indie, & old time country & blues, his music is a voodoo brew that sounds both familiar but fresh and original. His debut album dropped on October 14, 2021.
