Martian Subculture and the surreal psych pop kaleidoscope of "Thin Lines"

"livin' on a thin line, cuz you only got so much time..."

Martian Subculture is the artful recording project of Irish singer-songwriter, DIY producer Evan O'Malley and "Thin Lines", the second single from his debut LP called "Bank Prologue" (dropping in 2022), is a multicolored piece of psych pop. I love how it starts off chill and beautifully odd with lounge punk tones, a cool lo-fi beat / groove and fluid soulful vocals. Evan's vocal aesthetic, bathed in a  deep (but not to deep) echo chamber, excels in his high register delivery with a trippy sound that feels a bit 70's glam and R&B indie at the same time. There is a surprising sort of art rock / art punk musical break that lifts you up with jagged downbeat directions and shapes that push experimental buttons elevating the track in wonderful ways. I like the collision of soul, funk, art punk, glam, indie rock like a silky collision of Porches, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Prince and Ratatat. Cool beans.

'Martian Subculture' is the recording project of Evan O'Malley. After spending some time messing with multi-effects pedals and lo-fi mics and cassette players, I find myself finding weird sounds, but also finding songs too. Psych pop with groovy melodies.
