Coyle Girelli and the quiet reflective, insanely romantic "From 7th Street with Love" (Official Video)

The last time I wrote about Coyle Girelli I described his music (Love Kills) "Like a sonic piece of Pulp Fiction it feels like a tortured 50's love ballad with a post punk heart. The sweeping sound screams Phil Spector and Girelli's voice is that of rock god status ala Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley" and his big artful voice and ability to infuse big chunks of surreality into his alt rock milieu via his theatricality without minimizing the emotional pull was beyond impressive.

On "From 7th Street with Love" he strips all the audacious power away but still moves us. Essentially a dreamy (and still surreal) love song to a place instead of a person, it is reflective and in the dark recesses of a late night or early morning might give you a chill across your arms. The broadly painted lyrics that if pushed further might seem cheeky (but do not) are insanely romantic and Coyle's vocal aesthetic feels pained, crushed but full of deep longing. His resonance in the back of his throat holds the sadness and the higher sustains hold the hope. This is the kind of song that you might hear in some non descript piano bar in the lower East side of Manhattan while you drink your pain away or gain the strength to tell someone that you cannot live without them.

Coyle, originally from Leeds, England and based in Brooklyn, New York City shares:

“This is my love song to New York City,” said Girelli. “I wrote it during the depths of the COVID lockdown while out of the city, in the woods in Vermont. I was missing the city, especially during her time of trauma. Her madness, her noise, her energy, her smells and sounds. The people. The subway. The bars and restaurants. The theater, the museums. The opera house. My beautiful Central Park. She was hurting and I wasn’t there to hold her and tell her that I love her. New York has given me so, so much and continues to do so every day. She is my muse. It was love at first sight and always will be."

I do believe that places that are deeply entrenched in your soul are because of the connections to the people of that locale and how that place effects them as well. This might feel like a circular emotional puzzle but it makes sense to me. My west coast state feels like no other and I have lived in other parts of the country where the people's good will or outstretched hospitality feels more on the surface and not quite as deep. I have spent many days and nights in New York as well and feel the heart of the city in it's people. All of us have places that speak to them for a myriad of reasons. I hope you have found your place, your muse.

Your Vegas and The Chevin frontman, Coyle Girelli released his highly anticipated debut solo album Love Kills on September 21 2018. A sweeping cinematic dark, lusty and soulful Americana record widely hailed as a masterpiece Love Kills showcases one of the greatest vocalists in modern music at the top of his game. Love Kills swims in a sound that mixes the crooning influences of Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash together with soaring melodies reminiscent of Ennio Morricone and a modern dark Americana edge to create something refreshingly new and unique. The origin story of Girelli’s debut solo album begins with a songwriting session with music legend Mac Davis, writer of iconic hits such as In the Ghetto and "A Little Less Conversation" for Elvis Presley. Inspiring Girelli to hole up in a studio in New York City writing and recording the album over several months in late 2017 and early 2018. Originally from Leeds, England Girelli is now based in Brooklyn, New York City.
