Crash Cadet and the heavy metal affirmations of "Better Me"

""I will be less impatient / I will honor promises / I will reject temptation..."

The hard edged, gleefully caustic, machine like mantric "Better Me" by Boston, Mass Crash Cadet, the slippery and varied music project of artist, musician, DIY producer Josh Rathbun, feels like post punk, heavy metal affirmations in the bathroom mirror. The dirty guitar sound with big rock slides and squealing feedback gets loud and quiet (relatively speaking) while Rathbun lists promises made to keep, at least, try to keep:

"I will learn to let things go
I will read the books I own
I will hold a tranquil soul
I am getting better
I’ll be understanding
I will compromise
I’ll be less demanding
You will realize"

You get the feeling as the song spins out (love the wild musical break) that everyone of those resolutions are just destined to be broken. I dig the maniacal sound, the fever pitch aesthetic, and the horror cat on the piano movie keys that show up out of nowhere.
