San Fermin and the illusionary psych pop indie "Nothingness" featuring The Districts (Official Video)

"I miss the joke by the punch line..."

On San Fermin's new EP, "In This House", the shape shifting (8 piece - give or take) band, centered around Brooklyn-based composer and songwriter Ellis Ludwig-Leone, collab with a bevy of divergent bands from Nico Muhly, Sorcha Richardson, Thao Nguyen, Wye Oak, Attacca Quartet, Wild Pink and, on the psych pop trip fest "Nothingness", stir things up with The Districts.

About the collab, Ellis adds, "It was super fun to work with Rob on this song. I’ve been a fan of The Districts since we saw them at Sasquatch in 2015, and it was cool to put this one together with him piece by piece. We started with the chorus and then layered instruments in until we found the right arrangement." The Districts' Rob Grote expounds, "'Nothingness' is about the illusions and projections we hold onto for far too long that obscure our views of reality."

I am digging the minimalistic framework of "Nothingness", the jagged jumbled drum fills, textured big synths and percolating psychedelic orchestrations that simmer but never flood as vocal harmonies tell illusionary stories.

(From Wikipedia) San Fermin is an American indie rock collective, led by Brooklyn-based composer and songwriter Ellis Ludwig-Leone. Known for combining indie rock, pop, and classical influences into lush compositions, they released their self-titled debut album on Downtown Records in 2013. This was followed by the records Jackrabbit and Belong in 2015 and 2017, respectively. Their fourth album, a double album titled The Cormorant I & II, was released in full in March 2020.

San Fermin generally perform as an eight-piece group, pairing traditional rock instrumentation (electric guitar, keyboards, drums) with baritone saxophone, trumpet, and violin. The group has alternating lead vocalists, including co-founder Allen Tate and formerly Charlene Kaye.
