Mimi Raver and the beautiful drama and pain of "Easier"

"April came and we gathered around your grave and we said your name..."

Like a theme to a surf noir story by Kem Nunn, "Easier" by Los Angeles divergent indie artist Mimi Raver is bathed in an evocative starry eyed cinematic tone riding on western surf guitar and the unmistakable surf rock beat that slides easily like late moonlit cut-backs at Malibu. Mimi's vocal aesthetic is pensive, even darkly melancholy even as what first feels like her pining for someone is slowly revealed to be much more heavy. While "Easier" can feel (in the right light) a bit melodramatic and in another light so incredibly sad, Mimi shares (via press notes) that the song is "about dealing with death and the pain that can stick with you for years after" and as someone who can relate (in many ways), knowing this fact give the dark romance of this song added gravitas.

The song, written, performed and engineered by Mimi herself in her home analog studio dubbed Room 8 makes it, somehow, even more special and I feel that writing something so personal and crafting it from top to bottom in such a DIY way is so incredibly special, forever.
