Rip Room and the pure unadulterated punk D.N.A. of "Complication"

"stay connected to the task and build something from nothing..."

San Francisco based Rip Room have a pure unadulterated punk sound. The kind of sound best achieved by 3 (only 3) kick ass musicians like themselves. Listen to "Complication" and you instantly feel the black leather clad D.N. A. of iconic artists like X, like the Breeders, like The Pixies or like more mature versions of Black Flag or Germs. You might be able to mention more purely punk outfits but you surely catch my drift and what is interesting, even funny, is that it is so fucking difficult to do this 'specific thing' justice, to do it right and in a real way. You can smell poseurs from around the corner, from a mile away and there are many who make a shit ton of money doing it in a false way. Rip Room gets it exquisitely right.

On their charismatic and alluringly unpredictable debut album, Alight and Resound, the wound-up art punks in Rip Room reunited with storied engineer Tim Green (Melvins, Bikini Kill, Sebadoh). The result is twelve pulsing songs that harken back to better musical times while somehow embracing the relevance of the moment. "Complication" captures the energy of bands like Unwound, Sleater-Kinney, and Fugazi. Propulsive rhythms and piercing lyrics with a sense of buoyancy. Brashness over banality.
