Aubrey Haddard and the dreamy, unrelenting "Green As Ever" (Official Video)

"according to mythology we play a role, don't tell me when the summer ends..."

Seasons, for some of us they hold special meanings and are sometimes not constrained by yearly cycles but exist as metaphors for distinct periods of our lives. An autumn, a summer may span years or generations even. "Green As Ever" by Brooklyn singer-songwriter, musician Aubrey Haddard is the kind of song you could play over and over again as an endless loop of sounds, of transient words that instill and diffuse at the same time. The potent beat running on blips of sound that feel like seconds sweeping by on some cosmic clock and Aubrey's beautiful voice that soothes you hypnotically, her words dipping into your brain like seeds. Everyone might draw different feelings from this track but for me there is a feeling of sadness of time fleeting by and a lot of us not being present enough to grasp onto, to hold, to relish in our experiences.

I am struck by Aubrey's amazing vocal aesthetic and huge sustains that carry empathy along with those aforementioned strains of melancholia. "Green As Ever" is from Aubrey's upcoming sophomore album "Awake & Talking" dropping on August 19th (2022), an "ode to long Summer days & dates with destiny".

Brooklyn singer/songwriter Aubrey Haddard defines her own set of boundaries just to boldly knock them back down. Described by NPR as having a “nascent star power,” Haddard’s powerful, gutsy roar, and whip smart songwriting reference the most soulful indie songwriters, from the hopeless romanticism of Jeff Buckley to the mystic pixiness of Kate Bush.
