"I'm not afraid but I've become an echo..."
I love when artists dare to not only blend styles but purge and share their emotions in the same breath (or at least the same song). At least that is what I am feeling within the drama and melancholy of "expire" by Finnish alternative pop artist and producer Cecil Opia. The bending and falling synth lines, Cecil's vocal aesthetic that, while beautifully sad, has an exquisite self aware pop sensibility as well. "expire" moves from ethereal and darkly drawn dream pop to something resembling more broad with sweeping 80's pop grooves like a crushing cross generational amalgam of artists as diverse as Porches, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and George Michael.
