Nostranders and the NYC surf punk curse and blessings of "Flipside"

"question marks in the way she moves..."

I have to admit that when I first pushed play on "Flipside" by NYC three piece surfy punk outfit Nostranders, I tapped my foot but said "bleh" in my head. I was going to move on and then the plucky simple lead line and double time high-hat beat felt so fucking cool and, in fact, reminded me of a sort of amalgam (that stretched generations) to early Cure (think "Boys don't Cry) and Surf Curse (Live at the Smell). Slowly, the sort of All Mod Cons-esque bass line and snarling sort of Brit pop influences (or at least mental manifestations of days gone by) and I realized how fucking cool Nostranders sound and how fucking old I have become. Digging "Flipside" a lot and reminiscing about wearing those kato pen pants at Madame Wongs with a low slung Fender Jaguar. Life is fucking grand and the youthful times, the thieves of summer on the East Coast or West are golden.
