Seabiscuit and the unfettered artful explosion of "Youth Accomplished"

"dark noir movies with scenes only at night on wet city streets..."

As I dip into the pearly psych rock distillation of "Youth Accomplished" by Gothenburg, Sweden's divergent alternative rock outfit Seabiscuit I can literally feel the weight of mystery in the air clouding my senses and invisible walls closing in. I also feel the growing desire to see these instrumental dream casters live in a jubilant huge crowd of people because, obviously, a crowd watching, experiencing Seabiscuit would be amped up and feeling nothing but the kinetic synergy of their music. And each person in their crowd would feel something different, because instrumental music is a wide beautiful canvas for each of us to throw our own imagery upon, our own lyrics.

If someone were to ask me what kind of music Seabiscuit makes I would say evocative rock. I would also say that it would be easier to describe their music by what kind of movies their music might be a soundtrack for. If that were the case, the movies would be as diverse as spaghetti westerns on earth (or in outer space), espionage thrillers, dark noir movies with scenes only at night on wet city streets, vast dystopian nightmare movies, discordant family dramas and, of course, a love story between two melancholy eskimos. And that is all based on their 2019 eponymous debut album alone. That doesn't even include their latest offering "Youth Accomplished" from their upcoming EP titled "They learned to fear the name Seabiscuit".

"Youth Accomplished" is fluid dreams and post rock in a wonderful dance together. The synth walled grooves and percolating phased guitar shapes are addictive in the best sense, tightly drawn, proggy art rock with over spilling splashes of paint. There are also playful synth melodies that feel youthful (kind of MGMT-esque) and escapist before they bend down multicolored rabbit holes.

I dig this all so much and I do very much want to see the love story between two melancholy eskimos.

When listening to the Gothenburg based act Seabiscuit, you enter a strange little world of its own. The sounds captivate you and suck you in, and once you're in – you want to stay there and hide forever.

You find yourself enjoying the forgotten soundtrack of a suggestive retro video game that never existed, combined with lo-fi guitars playing mystical adorable notes. The atmosphere created by the music tells you a story, and you can almost see it pan out in front of you. A distorted drum beat is blasting away in the horizon, and dreamy crisp chords are spreading out across the vivid coloured sky. You like it here. This could definitely be your home. Here comes the next song, and it's a beautiful lonely guitar strumming away in the darkness, sounding as if it was played in another time. I'll never leave this place, you think to yourself while closing your eyes tighter and tighter.

We are proud to welcome Seabiscuit into the Black Hair family and encourage you to listen to the debut album that dropped August 15th, 2019.
