Paultra Violet and the avant pop rock illusions of "HONESTLY I ALWAYS KNEW"

"other girls are not like you..."

The frenetic sonic exasperation of "HONESTLY I ALWAYS KNEW" by Paultra Violet, a maybe pandemic induced musical project between actor Joey Palestina (HBO's We Own This City), composer Spencer Miles (Space Fight) and producer pal Joel Hunter Martin (Y God Y), feels steeped in anxious catharsis, acerbic wit and 80's new wave soundtracks blended with 90's avant pop punk. In fact (and I know this is a bit fucked up) but listening to this track I thought of The Drums and Billy Ocean at the same time. Of course, Palestina's seemingly ID fueled lyrics and full fledged sound by this diverse trio goes deeper than that. There is a lot to unpack here, musically, sonically, lyrically which only makes me more intrigued about the full length due to drop this fall.

What began as emailed demos between actor Joey Palestina (HBO's We Own This City) and composer Spencer Miles (Space Fight) during the height of the 2020 pandemic, soon became a project too thick to sleep in desktop files.

Once the duo added producer and synth fiend Joel Hunter Martin (Y God Y), Palestina’s fragmented lyrics became moody journal entries, charged by a digital lust for modern love.

Now with musicians across the planet contributing to the electro-pop project, Paultra Violet has four singles ready to drop and a debut album that hits ears in Fall '22.

Early comparisons have been drawn to Gorillaz, Chromatics and Yot Club.
