Siobamm and the flesh and bone transformation of "Meat Machine" (Official Video)

 

"and I'm looking for somebody who can fill a need and I'm looking for somebody who can comfort me..."

The Official Video for "Meat Machine" finds Siobamm's doppelganger or supernatural alter-ego stalking her throughout Toronto. The video is darkly funny and the alt rock song by the Canadian singer-songwriter, musician, engineer, producer and competitive roller derby player (yeah, really) probes your brain while satisfying your cravings for raw sounds that blends industrial rock, indie rock and sort of gothic space rock tones. 

"A hunter prowling for blood / for flesh, for bone and for fun / get off your rocks make it hurt / and eat the shame for desert..." is just one line of her delicious, darkly funny and weighty lyrics that Siobamm offer with an up close vocal aesthetic. I like the personality, character of her voice that somehow feels brazen, yet artfully tender. 

Of the song she shares: 

"When I made my last EP in isolation, I spent a lot of time reflecting on my sexuality and I realized I am not completely gay and am actually attracted to men. This track is me owning my bisexual thirstiness, while also accepting my physical insecurities. The best sex happens when people are vulnerable, so I created a song reflecting on some of my weird body fixations and asking “who wants to fuck?”. I feel like years of being very forward in gay relationships has made me very blunt and not afraid to ask for what I want."

In total, to me "Meat Machine" possesses some of the jagged raw musicality, sensuality, and artful expression of emotions as something else (possession comes to mind) like (maybe) an amalgam of PJ Harvey, Garbage and Ann Rice (R.I.P.).

Siobamm is a musician, engineer, and producer from Toronto, Canada. She is also a competitive roller derby player with Toronto Roller Derby. Prior to joining derby, she played in various concert, jazz, and rock bands for ten years. Her debut EP, GLOOM PATROL, was released May 28th, 2021.
