SNIFF and the post punk turmoil and tribulations of "Trigger" (Official Odd Video)

"Trigger"

Sometimes you gravitate towards music because it tells you a direct story all self contained in a nice package with melodies and lyrics. And sometimes it is quite the opposite. Sometimes the package looks like someone kicked it down a flight of stairs and bled on it. Hmmm? That just might be the case for "Trigger' by Berlin based SNIFF. The wails of sounds sort of like Italian Police cars, the barrage of punk hearted psych torn drums and barreling bass lines, screaming lead lines, and crazy guy on the street vocal aesthetic is exquisitely compelling. I think because it is so densely emotional, creating multiple tensions. Also it has a wonderfully kind of horror aspect to it (to me). The sort of caustic nature would work so well as an utter counter position to a slow moving camera in on an unsettling situation. Think about it.

My mind has been thinking about things like this as I have started to pen an unsettling story with political and horror themes. Anyway, for whatever reason or how you listen to "Trigger" I think it is an artistic piece of work and of turmoil. Love the musicality, the emotionality here.

From Press Notes:

‘Trigger’ sees the band in fully fledged disorder, confronting a sense of frustration, dysfunction and paranoia.

Based in Berlin but hailing from Italy, Australia, Britain and Scotland respectively, SNIFF is composed of Nico Pili (Vocals), James Pain (Drums), Chris White (Bass), and Daniel Murphy (Guitar). Their music reflects the smoky back rooms, late night bars and dysfunctional discos in which they met.

SNIFF is a Berlin-based post-punk four piece that combines hypnotic bass lines, frantic guitars, pounding drums and mournful vocals. Messed up, dark and a little bit unhinged, they regularly tiptoe the line between arousal and repulsion.
