TEOSE and the expansive rock indie sway of "Bikini"

"Bikini", the song warranted a two piece band so I could say something cleverly stupid or just plain stupid but, no, the jagged, urgent indie rock song is by Glasgow-based 3 piece TEOSE. From the onset, "Bikini", a song lead vocalist, writer / producer Melissa Brisbane says is "literally just about feeling insecure when wearing a bikini" move gleefully with big hard punk jangle pop edges until it feels less jangle and more alt rockish meet post rock meets grunge. That expansiveness is very cool as is the vocal aesthetic that while not gang vocal-ish have that kind of tone. Brisbane's lead vocal countenance, self assured and with a unique cutting sound is beyond interesting.  "Bikini" feels at first like a simple banger but listening multiple times cuz, well you just will want to and you hear complex things happening. I am digging "Bikini" a whole lot.

"This is the title track to the upcoming EP we're releasing in July, it's a fun fuzzy wee number! "

With a style that combines Soccer Mommy’s 90’s alternative musical packaging and Big Thief’s diaristic alt-folk lyrical storytelling, Glasgow-based 3 piece TEOSE produce a chimerical blend of New Wave, Dreampop, and Grunge. Fronted by writer/producer Melissa Brisbane, TEOSE have been quietly recording and self-releasing a series of DIY recordings while the world was on lockdown, eventually coming to the attention of UK independent record label Kaleidoscope at the beginning of 2021. Their songwriting has a deceptively simple brilliance, layering fuzz-laden steady guitar riffs under joyous pop-inflected lead lines, all underpinning lyrics laced with both humour and heartache, a style which drew comparisons to The Cure from the Scottish Alternative Music Awards.

“[TEOSE] combine an instantly catchy melody with sharp guitars to create something that borders the same line between jubilant music and melancholic lyrics that The Cure are known for.” (Scottish Alternative Music Awards)
