Mad Lasso and the wistful Polaroid beauty of "Crystal" (Official Video)

"I know things are getting harder and I know the days seem longer..."

Maybe one of the hardest thing to do as a songwriter is to compose a song that feels comfortable because it reminds you of a song that doesn't necessarily exist at all. That is to say, the song feels like a ghost and as such haunts you. That is the case with the alluring, dreamy, melancholy "Crystal" by Austin raised, Atlanta based Mad Lasso, centered by songwriter, musician Franklin Smith Ellis. The song has a country folk lilt with lovely bending guitar notes and faint hints of late 70's chamber pop-isms. It is easy to love and like that aforementioned ghost will likely stay in your mind and come back to you often. It has emotional hooks and barbs like Palmer’s Grappling Hooks that grab onto your socks when you are hiking on south western trails.

Ellis shares:

"Crystal is a love song I wrote about an ex so obviously for the video I cast my newest source of happiness, my puppy, Emmylou"

In the end, "Crystal" is a beautiful song, as beautiful as wistful Polaroid pictures that you could not burn after all.

Mad Lasso is the sick and wicked brain child of Franklin Smith Ellis, a sick man searching for a wicked sound. Mad Lasso's influences range from the old country icons he grew up listening to in his hometown of Austin, TX (Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley, Guy Clark, Emmylou Harris, Charley Pride, to name a few) and newer Americana/country and indie artists (Charley Crockett, Lilly Hiatt, Cut Worms, Faye Webster, Tyler Childers, to name a few more). Mad Lasso records his music with his friends and bandmates in Atlanta, GA.
