"I got a debt of serotonin / I got a debt of serotonin / I got a debt of serotonin / I got a debt of serotonin..." Sorry, I have been repeating this all day. It kind of stays in your head in that way where you have to repeat it. Be forewarned.
"Serotonin" is a frenetic, art punkish, proggy track by Buddy Wynkoop (this is an art punk band not an art punk person) based out of Portland, Oregon. The sound, one that has gained a resurgence over the last 5 years is steeped in proto punk sounds that have the sonic nucleic acid of late 70's / early 80's experimental punk or new wave bands. I am feeling an amalgam of artists like Devo, Television and Pere Ubu but Buddy Wynkoop adds other flavors. They fall away from the fast clicking machine like movements to slow motion lounge punk or doo wop punk with a coating of lush glitter ball surreal pop (I thought of Chicano Batman for some reason). The respite is short but totally, gleefully surprising.
