Bundy and the slow burn heaviness of "The Crow"

"I dance because I want to through needles in the dark to seek another candle and light another spark..."

The pervasive guitar down strokes of "The Crow" from Long Beach, California's Bundy pushed by a persistent solid drum beat and highlighted by sustained guitar leads that feel art rock in tone provide a cool air of mystery. A cagey opaque glass framework for vocalist and guitarist Nani Serna to crash through. The song about "wanting to be free from depression" is a slow burner with layers of interlocking guitars adding weight much like the dulled heaviness of depression itself. Nevertheless, the song does ascend, erupt during the choruses with multiple vox and guitar strikes the feel hopeful.

"The Crow" will be on Bundy's 7 track album dropping on October 17th, 2022.

Cultivated, from the satirical aspect of their own reality, Long Beach’s Bundy and their bleak optimism, draws heavy influences from that of post-punk fused with the extraction of the raw energy of protopunk. Vocalist and guitarist Nani Serna romanticizes self-destruction with his charismatic and guttural styling, which is complimented by the likes of guitarist Johnny Lim and his dynamic structures. Balancing aggressive guitars with melodic breaks, cinematic scopes, and wistful chimes, Bundy flourishes as a new unit with Mike Meza on drums and JB Vasquez, respectfully on bass.

Bundy’s pop-centric mindset and thematic portrayal have continued to attract listeners for the past three years. From self-sabotage, to self-realization, Bundy’s penned lines are published posthumously on their 2018 full-length debut, Bastard Performer. Presenting the faults and absorbing the impact, the album’s polished production attributes to the band homing in on their developed sound. The album’s sequential narrative score plays with dramatic and emotional
accents on tracks such as “What Blood,” and “Manic.”

Following in the same vein of Bastard Performer, Bundy is set to release a slew of singles in 2019, the first being “Enough to Know,” which is a more honest arrival of rotating themes of love, depression and alcoholism. “The chorus, 'I'm only aware enough to know that I have a self-destructive bone' is something that I've realized that I’m a fuckin’...that I’m self-destructive; but how much am I able to deal with it?” explains Serna.

Bundy’s interpretation and dark prints are the core that relays their humility to a listener. Sadistically raw, and despite it all still filled with a compassionate heart, Bundy’s collision of lyrics and sound are progressive in the Los Angeles scene. The post-punk outfit’s dissertation can be seen during their vivacious live performances and have garnered support from tastemakers and publications such as OC Weekly, Impose Magazine, and Buzz Band’s Kevin Bronson.

"During the last two years, Long Beach’s Bundy has risen to the top of the city’s thriving alternative music scene. Aside from putting on fiery live shows, the group has been releasing a steady stream of EPs, each more impressive than the last. So it’s no surprise that the band’s debut full-length Bastard Performer arrives as one of the best pieces of indie rock out of Southern California in recent memory. Bastard delivers the recording quality and polished production a band like Bundy deserves, and presents the quartet at their tightest. Here they’ve truly found their sound, and Bastard is absolutely brimming with driving rhythms, sophisticated guitar and vocals approaching such intensity that they sometimes sound like a personal exorcism. Songs like the vast, spacey title track or the lush “Kerosene” capture the band at the peak of their performance, crackling with a newfound electricity. It’s rare to hear a debut record that captures a band’s live presence so well, but Bastard Performer showcases Bundy’s rich and powerful style perfectly." -L.A. Record Magazine
