Friday Junior and the full throttle punk bliss and fury of "Drab from Colorless"

"I'm feeling breathless from the 400 blows / shots to the back and the ribs before they let go / when I fuck up the whole town knows..."

The absolute fervent, nearly out of breath, punk nature of "Drab from Colorless" from Baltimore's Friday Junior, centered around singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Connor Graham, is, for me, a wonderful surprise. It is not everyday that something as raw and emotionally so hard as to feel brittle hits my ears. I am a 70's kid who steeped himself deeply in the 80's So Cal music scene and Connor exhibits the same kind of punk / power pop drama and drive of artists like Archers of Loaf, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and early, hungry Elvis Costello and the Attractions.

I am especially feeling amped up, fully fueled by the tightly knit music, the feverish drumming and overall punk synergy of every element all at once. And I am digging Connor's vocal countenance too in a big way. It is not everyday that you come across an artist who seems steeped in the late 70's / early 80's proto punk / new wave dynamism and DyaliScopic allure of François Truffaut all at once.

"Drab from Colorless" is from Friday Junior's full length 'Fear Said, "Admit It!"' dropping September 30, 2022 featuring Connor Graham on guitars, bass, lead and backing vocals and Michael Lowry on drums.
