"It would be nice / To be in another world / Free from the old civilization / Or the forces of invisible hands / Or I could remain / In the land of the brave / With all the other fools..."
A follow up to Austin, TX based singer-songwriter / multi-instrumentalist Michael Sanders' full length avant pop / indie rock debut album "While I'm Still Young", the whimsical open armed pop saturated "Another World Like Ours" once again strikes a chord with those of us who swim in 60's / 70's pop, art pop oceans. Sanders has a pretty pop voice and he bathes it in a wash of effected reverb that makes it feel particularly surfy, particularly Californian. Not only that but there are orchestrations that have a Brian Wilson / Van Dyke Parks types of embellishments, not in a heavy way but at times I felt the ghost of "Good Vibrations" and the "Surfs Up" and "Holland" albums.
Within the pop beauty there is a patina of garden rock and psychedelia too. A dreamy haze of artists like 10CC, Al Stewart, Pablo Cruise and Supertramp. Artist that didn't try to get down in the mud too much.
