Tio and the orbiting alt rock psychedelic fun of "Pluto"

"little plastic soul swords popping bubbles..."

On Twitter I flippantly described the crazy celebratory sound of "Pluto" by the L.A. band Tio as existing somewhere between Phish and The Muppet Band and while I stand by this statement, their perfectly blended sound of stoner rock, jam band, psychedelic rock, indie rock, funk, Latin, space rock, jazz and quite possibly aerosolized by copious amounts of recreational substances is stunning and hedonistically fun.

Upon further reflection I am feeling the feral dense musical creativity of many artist, maybe an amalgam of Phish, Harry Nilsson, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Leon Redbone and a pinch (just a wee bit) of Pere Ubu and, yes, The Muppet Band.

"Pluto" is from the band's planetary "Space Rock Opera", each song on the album representing a different planet. The group tapped producer Ben Sturley to produce the album and Bluebiird to collaborate on several tracks.

Tio is a Los Angeles, California based band that blends the genres of rock, funk, jam, latin, and jazz to deliver a unique sound to adventurous audiences.

The group made waves playing in backyards all over LA and became known as the only band ever to perform a live "power hour" - 60 songs in 60 minutes.

** At this particular time we find ourselves in a financial pinch due to many factors. We want to keep AP going. It has been a passion project for over 13 years. PLEASE consider donating, we could really use the support. Thanks so much
