Claudio Olachea and the mind bending jazz soaked illusory 'See Me With the Hands'

"Claudio Olachea somehow seems to manifest a spinning piece of art like a hydra headed film projector"

Apart from inspiring me to move in wonky ways in a comedic weird dance (and I don't dance), the total immersion of 'See Me With the Hands' by Los Angeles composer, songwriter, producer Claudio Olachea is a beautiful series of sonic diorama boxes, each one unfolding with secrets. Claudio fills those boxes with things that feel vintage, at least the first box with the snaky horns and 40's-esque jazz dips that feels like Benny Goodman floating along wet city streets until the next box is presented pushing contemporary soulful bass lines and dramatic orchestrations. Blink and you might miss something, an alien presence, radio transmissions from other times colliding.

Claudio Olachea somehow seems to manifest a spinning piece of art like a hydra headed film projector casting out bits of Fred Astaire in Top Hat, Judy Garland in Wizard of Oz, Daniel Craig in Casino Royale and Frank the bunny in Donnie Darko until the translucent imagery overlaps. I am really digging the beautiful whimsy, dense musicality and tensions throughout.

As Claudio indicates:

[“See Me With the Hands” is genre bending. This song originally started out as duet for piano and upright bass, and then was forgotten and left to rot. Years later I came back to the sketch of this song as a more developed composer with something more to say and completely reimagined it with the help of some of my closest friends who, luckily for me, also happen to be some of the best musicians in LA. “See Me With the Hands” is the second single release from my upcoming EP, “Down Here”.]

Yeah, I am loving this.

Claudio Olachea is a composer, songwriter, and producer based in Los Angeles who has collaborated on scores for major motion pictures and top-rated television shows. His unique approach to composition is influenced by his eclectic background as an accomplished classical violinist and songwriter and musician for indie-rock bands.
Olachea’s most recent work is “Down Here”, an EP he produced and recorded at 64 Sound in Northeast Los Angeles. Originating from a series of voice memos dating as far back as 2012, “Down Here” is Olachea’s first solo release and a major departure from the traditional solo composer album. With influences ranging from classical to psychedelia, “Down Here” is a bold debut showcasing Claudio Olachea’s distinctive compositional voice.
