Dan Moxon and the deeply lovely and sardonic 'Real Good Guy'

"I'll split the bill when it's time to pay... cuz I'm a real good guy baby..."

The easily disarming 'Real Good Guy' by the solo project of Vancouver based singer-songwriter, piano man (BEND SINISTER) Dan Moxon slips beneath your skin and give you an internal hug. I mean, it feels like an affable late 70's pop track that could be the theme song for an affable late 70's beloved sitcom. Dan's vocal aesthetic is lovely, your best friend who you have beers with, the reliable one who always brings you the airport. Then the words seep in and the song shifts from that fun loving Mentos commercial to something more bitter sweet (but still totally affable) and then you head spins, "is that a fucking nod to The Back Street Boys, lol".

Slowly, seruptiously, you realize the hug around your shoulder is because it benefits 'that guy'. Of the song Dan shares:

'This track is one of my favourites on the record and plays with the idea of how someone can think they're the best person, partner or friend ever when, in reality, they only think that of themselves. The bridge also references some famous pop songs that ring true to this same idea.'

Suddenly the affable late 70's pop-esque tune is the theme song to someone like Donald Trump. Oh, fuck me. The lovely pop song turns out to be, yes, lovely but acerbic, sardonic and better than you every thought. Dan's The album is called 'LOUNGE SINGER'.

Dan Moxon is a Vancouver based singer-songwriter pianist who is most well known for fronting the rock band BEND SINISTER. In 2018 Dan decided to record his Debut solo album with help from lots of friends and local musicians. With a love of classic rock, soul and Motown, the album pulls from all Dan’s influences as he takes his own spin on so many different styles.

The debut album is called LOUNGE SINGER which plays with fact that lots of the songs were first played in a hotel lounge at the Fairmont pacific rim in Vancouver where Dan used to perform once every few months as a regular gig. It also plays into the idea that in Todays world of streaming and access to tons of content, it is sometimes hard to get people to actually take notice and listen to a song or record. Our fast paced world has somewhat turned lots of artists into background music where people talk over it and live their lives without listening deeper to the art itself.
