Stainwasher and the translucent, ethereal reflections of 'See Thee'

"both hopeful and crushingly sad..."

From her 2022 debut album 'The Outer Layer' by Swedish dream pop / shoegaze Stainwasher, the translucent 'See Thee' stealthily slipped into my psyche before I could stop it. People that know me, know that I am really into the lyrical parts of songs. I always have been. Stainwasher's sound here, foggy, ethereal and shoegazing doesn't offer her words on a silver plate and there isn't even room or time in the spaces to decipher them. Sometimes that can drive me crazy but not so here. The droning layers, the fluctuating synths sounds, the angelic chorale of voices and what feels like interstellar transmissions from space, alien and mournful, can feel both hopeful and crushingly sad depending on how you gaze at the light the sounds omit.

Lovely, sad, like moving through passages to find something that you might already have cradled in your heart the whole time, 'See Thee' feels like a supporting soundtrack to those times between birth and death that are moving and important.

With the release of Stainwasher's debut EP "What Did I See" in 2019, she quickly rose to be one of the most promising experimental acts in Sweden with support from critics around the world. The lead single ‘Joy For Me’ was crowned as one of the best songs this year by Belgian tastemakers HighClouds. “I never question if presenting my music to the world was a good idea anymore, the feedback makes it all worth it.” She says about the response.

October 14th this year, she released her debut album called "The Outer Layer" which offer more of Stainwasher’s dreamy soundscapes that blend well with influences from slowcore and tops off with dark and somewhat sarcastic lyrics that makes her characteristic bright voice even more touching.
