"Who will / Carry / A garbage bag / With me in it?"
The ever so slowly expanding musical universe of 'A Garbage Bag' by YVLz explodes into a starry eyed power punch groove of sound. The solo musical project of Yuri Velez, a disabled, multiracial musician, artist born and raised in New York City toys with art rock swoons and a self deprecating slant on things as he sings, "Patience / They tell me / I'm waiting and waiting / If I fuck this up / I'll be / Exactly the same as every other time..." but for the most part he lets the jagged guitar sounds, disruptive and eruptive, do most of the talking at least on this song from YvLz's debut EP, 'The Way You Bite', "a collection of love letters to depression, anxiety, fantasy, and loss, inflected with Velez’ commitment to social justice and constant battle against systemic oppression".
Of 'A Garbage Bag' Yuri shares that the song is "a tribute to anyone who has ever been made to feel disposable in the world because of any aspect of their identity", a universal feeling I suppose, at least we have all felt it from time to time.

Yvlz is the solo musical project of Yuri Velez, a disabled, multiracial musician/artist born and raised in New York City. Taken from the letters in his name and pronounced “evils,” the moniker is representative of subjects evoked in the music which swarms with fuzzy guitars reminiscent of 90s alt-rock, and washes over the listener with waves of ambient synthesizers. Yvlz’ debut EP, The Way You Bite, is a collection of love letters to depression, anxiety, fantasy, and loss, inflected with Velez’ commitment to social justice and constant battle against systemic oppression.
