"after the snake eats it's own tail it will surely be hungry again..."
Percolating nimble guitar flirtations and Afro-Latin claps within 'Loud Moon' feels at once fable-esque as it does prescient. Lyrically it's about "about memories, their role in the present, and Kweku's perception of emotional permanence". This evocative, sonically dense track is from Kweku's just released 2022 EP 'Then Spring (Side A)' a precursor to an upcoming 2023 full length. Kweku's debut 2020 album, 'Nat Love', was lauded and received an 8.0 on Pitchfork.
Of the EP 'Then Spring (Side A)', Kweku shares:
"My intention in making this album was to build on my creative process. To become a better artist. I really wanted to make stuff that I could play on instruments, with a group, and that other people could play as well."
And Press Notes reveal: This EP is meant to build anticipation for the scope of the full album due in 2023. Last month, Kweku dropped a double-single featuring "A Tale of the Twin Flame" from Side A and "An Original Internet" from the yet to be released full album. "A Tale of Twin Flame" landed on the Alternative Hip-Hop Playlist on Spotify which has over 800K followers. Tracks like "Dig (Don't Let Go)" are both an homage to drum & bass as well as alt-rock. "Storms" features Tatiana Hazel and delves into Afro-Cuban beats and a 3-2 "clave pattern" from the style "Son". As you listen to the EP you'll find references to Sade as well as stoner metal.

Kweku Collins has always made unexpected, thoughtful music. In 2015, just shy of his high school graduation, he released his debut EP, Say It Here While It's Safe immediately putting him on the Chicago and national Hip Hop scene. The EP received critical praise, including Pigeons and Planes putting him on the 20 Rappers under 20 List. In 2016, Kweku followed up with the debut album, Nat Love, continuing his great response from fans and press like Pitchfork. His 2017 album Grey continued this success including one of his most popular songs, “Aya”, which illustrated Kweku’s willingness and interest in challenging the boundaries of genres and listener’s expectations. Kweku has toured the US and Europe, and played many festivals including Pitchfork Fest and Lollapalooza.
