Moondaddy and the never ending illusory "Lover's Eye"

"you were my kaleidoscope..."

Sometimes the warble is everything. At least that is what I am feeling listening to the addicting, compelling vintage synth atmospheres of "Lover's Eye", the debut single by Moondaddy. There is a sort of broken distressed timbre to the keys in and they stick to my brain in the best way.  It is so alluring and as the rolling bass and strutting beat takes hold I am also peaked by Cara Potiker's absolutely artful vocal countenance and the space robotic backing vox. There are other things that feel magnetic, the guitar sounds graced with a sort of mellotron tape feel and bathed with a distortions that feels so glam.

In the end and even though "Lover's Eye" fades out, it is the kind of song that I could listen to if it were a continuous couple of hours long as I would get utterly drunk inside it.

The first single from the record, Lover’s Eye, is a glimpse into the pain of unresolved and unrequited love inspired by the Georgian trend of gifting portrait miniatures to secret lovers. The track begins with a recitative verse driven by a brooding bass line, thick melancholic strings, and a shrill wailing guitar. “I tore through the lovers eye, and I don’t know why“ ripples through the spacious, hook-driven chorus. The song arouses the listener by moving from cinematic grunge and indie rock to an energetic trip hop fade out. Lover’s Eye seamlessly encapsulates several genres while still fitting in with the rest of the album.
