"I know I knew you once a little..."
The amount of passion, melancholy and musical cool woven throughout "Things Are Not the Same" by Brooklyn artist, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Noah Gönci all combined carries a lot of artistic, emotional weight. Noah takes a sort of lounge punk meets late 80's indie rock chunkiness and blends it together in a magnetic way and when you feel it on one track he jump to something else. I like how the electric guitar rhythms (at one point) give way to an acoustic lead. I like the sort of emo-esque acoustic rhythms and the wonky synth movements that float behind the vox. And how those vox hold lyrics drawn in somber ways creating vague imagery born out of emotions that pervade one's biology:
"Emptiness fills my lungs, I'm sorry / I find it hard to speak about the past / The words get caught between my teeth / they go by fast..."
OH and the musical breakdown are incredible, lovely.
Noah as the auteur and diy producer creates his musical universes in his room and we get to benefit.
