"the first single from the EP 'Unyou'"
When it comes to sci-fi or fantasy soundtracks, why is it that borrowing cues from the past sound exquisitely more engaging and more futuristic than totally foreign soundscapes? I think it is because we have a penchant for futures that are dystopic, fractured and shells of our former selves. I also think that because things like algorithms and data farming feels so intrusive, so evil, that we like to embrace times and sounds from before, aesthetics that feel safer.
Listening to the evocative "Time Remapping" by Perth, Australia's talented duo Left Devices" and you feel organic sensations (live percussion and guitars) within the nostalgic, sometimes caustic synth sounds and affected samples. The track could be from a movie like David Cronenberg's 1981 horror /sci-fi head exploding flick "Scanners" or it could be from Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" that came out only a year later or, of course, it could be in a future movie because what "Time Remapping" serves up: textured synth sounds (full rounded, with weight), a definite revolving narrative full of mystery and open ended possibilities is highly compelling for any time.
"Time Remapping" is the first single( with an accompanying Official Video) from Left Devices' upcoming EP "Unyou".

A music collaboration that began long distance between Buenos Aires, Argentina and Perth, Australia would eventually take full form when the two were back in Perth again. A mix of live percussion and guitars, swelling electronics, affected samples and a healthy taste for tangents is what drives their sound.
