"I've got superpowers, I see into the future up to 25 hours..."
It's not often that you hear a song that makes you laugh, raise a curious eyebrow, and seriously bob your head to the up front jam and powerful backbeat, a song that combines 70's pop rock, 80's power pop, 90's avant indie, 2000's proggy post rock and current revisionist rock genres all at fucking once. The song is "Transferred to Houston" and the band is Scalise, a self described "folk-rock band with two lead singers and a horn section out of the South Metro Twin Cities area".
Scalise, Twin Cities, progressive rock, experimental rock, ensemble art rock, indie rock, jam rock, folk, alt pop, cross generational hybrid, "Transferred to Houston",
The song is so nimble in it's shape shifting that it feels like only 2 minutes long, and granted it is barely over 3 minutes but there is a lot of wonderful tonal shifts here. The wordplay is fun, clever, charming and the synergistic tightly wound musicality is something to marvel at. This experimental rock song about going insane have some daring do's like 'many of the elements being recorded background' like background vocals and the drum fill at 2:07. There are some things going on that made me think of a cross generational amalgam of MGMT, Harry Nilsson, The Flaming Lips, Sweet, The Tubes and The Quick.
"Transferred to Houston" is one of three singles release to promote the band's upcoming sophomore album.

Scalise is an progressive folk-rock band with two lead singers and a horn section out of the south metro Twin Cities area.
The group began as a duo in 2013 when the members were still in middle school. They've contrasted their original minimalist sound by adding four new members and creating a dense sonic space. Scalise is currently promoting the release of their upcoming singles off of their sophomore album.
