Way Down The Rainbow and the alt rock wild abandon of "Heppy!"

"my heart is beating a bit too fast, maybe I like it..."

The instantly furious alt rock punch of "Heppy!" by Kongsberg, Norway's Way Down The Rainbow could only be created by the young. You remember don't you? The unbridled power and unrelenting swelling chest full of justified anger and sanctioned hope even though you might not know quite what you are doing and melancholia hangs over you like the darkest of clouds, you feel, at times, invincible. Digging the heaviness here, the alt rock shapes and huge eruptions of sound, the emo meets hip hop swagger within the wailing vox, the politico punk break-aways and the stomping on egg shells aesthetic. Also feeling a glorious kind of 90's post grunge rock aesthetic here and the guitar note at around 2:56 during the hammering outro (holy shit).

Press notes added [Described as a fusion of Pink Floyd and The Mars Volta, their music has been captivating audiences with uplifting melodies and lyrics that touch on mental health issues.] and I definitely thought of The Mars Volta after a first listen but, interestingly, thought of Rage Against the Machine as well. Not light weight references in the least.

Way Down The Rainbow, an Alternative Rock Band hailing from Kongsberg, Norway, has been making waves in the music industry with their unique sound and meaningful lyrics. Described as a fusion of Pink Floyd and The Mars Volta, their music has been captivating audiences with uplifting melodies and lyrics that touch on mental health issues.

Since forming in 2016, Way Down The Rainbow has quickly gained recognition for their engaging live performances, transporting their listeners through a euphoric dreamscape. The band's sound is a result of the chemistry between its members, who started playing together as young, naive, and inexperienced 16-year-olds after starting at the same high school.

“We got together and jammed every single school break, and got together after school to play,” says Peter, one of the band members. After performing their first school show, they fell in love with the experience, convincing Peter's brother Jonatan to start at the same school and join the band. Jonatan was working as a mechanic at the time but quit his job after a serious incident where he almost cut off his finger, choosing to take up high school with the band.

“The school was more of a meeting ground, and we would often ditch classes to make music. Only one member finished high school,” says Peter.

Way Down The Rainbow's music is not just about the sound, but also about the message. Their lyrics touch on mental health issues, aiming to break down the stigma surrounding these topics. The band wants to inspire their listeners to seek help when needed and to know that they are not alone in their struggles. With their unique sound and meaningful message, Way Down The Rainbow is a band to watch out for. Their music has the potential to change lives and make a positive impact in the world.
