Miniaturized and the indie rock call to arms of "Riots" (Official Video)

"all of the complications, too many ruts causing too many riots..."

From the onset of "Riots" by San Diego, California based Miniaturized you feel an indie rock embrace. When Timothy Joseph graces us with the words, "Let's start at the top / This is a sentiment song / Just a point of reference as life gets on /Just a moment taken, a melody to recall..." you believe him. For a song that is fueled by the divisiveness in this country, for a song that could be called politico rock or at least one that is social commentary as much as it is a call to arms for the pacifists, for peaceful discourse, for building on our common causes instead of real bloodletting, it has a gentle rock sway, it feels like a sing-a-long for quiet calm.

Timothy Joseph shares:

"Riots speaks to the weight of experience and the possibility for change. With all of the negative discourse and division that has been prevalent, the song calls us to remember that without effort, there is no progress."

While the once called GOP, republican 'freedom party' has morphed into something closer to the Nazi party, business suited fascists with tentacles reaching into our bedrooms and bodies, "Riots", might, to some, feel sort of kumbaya but I don't take it like that at all. It feels graceful, purposeful in it's call for sanity, for love. So sing a long, sing fucking a long and then support positive change and those who will get us there.

"All of the complications
Too many ruts causing too many riots
You should appreciate it
You wouldn't know if you didn't try it"

As press notes reveal:

[Born in 2021 from members of some of San Diego's most cherished acts (Pinback, Rocket From the Crypt, No Knife, Buckfast Superbee), miniaturized was initially formed as a one-off project for a MusiCares charity show honoring Tom Petty. San Diego-based Timothy Joseph found inspiration from dissecting Petty’s songwriting, coming to revelations about his own work as a musician in the process. With a sudden fresh perspective, he began composing all original material that would shape the future of the band into something all its own. miniaturized is, at its core, a rock band. Still, the sound is so sweeping and vibrant that it overflows, spilling into the more nuanced realms of pop and indie rock and nods to iconic alternative rock of decades past such as Pixies, Built to Spill, The Feelies, Jesus and Mary Chain, and early R.E.M.]

I am digging the harmonies, the nuanced keys and heavy bass / drums dance, the sparkling and punchy guitars and the vocal countenance, charmed with hard edges singing softly.

With their live debut at the world famous Casbah in July of 22, the band has burst into the public eye as something completely new. Their sound has blurred the lines between the angular, edgy sonics of the members’ previous efforts and emotional, connective song- craft. The earnest assertion of singer Timothy Joseph’s voice and lyrics draws listeners in with uncertain familiarity. And with only a very few select live appearances to their credit so far, their single ‘miniaturized’ in rotation on 91X FM and their emotional video for ‘Why Don’t We Play God’, miniaturized has quickly garnered the excitement and attention of a rapidly growing audience. Their debut LP, due out in spring of 2023, was recorded and produced by legendary record producer, Mitch Easter (R.E.M., Pavement, Wilco).
