"let's draw a map without any lines where we live in a big house with an avocado tree..."
Sometimes experimental music feels like a foreign language and sometimes it feels like a pop hallucinogen, so like kinda sweet and bendy and wonky. The latter is what "The Invisible Line" by Oakland, California based Nervous Systems feels like. This duo have independently been crafting experimental art and pop music for over a decade and now come together for a new project in Nervous Systems.
"The Invisible Line" feels precise on one hand and precarious on the other, like a skilled ice skater who pulls off amazing moves but also almost falls down on occasion but pulling it together just in time. I mean this as a compliment and surely the abandoned moments on this track are purposeful but sometimes they don't sound like it and I love that.
Nervous Systems is comprised of Caitlin Palmer who is into ancient mystics and Jason Kick, a full time music producer/engineer. With Caitlin's vocal aesthetic that skips in between bedroom and twee pop and Jason's gleeful avant garde tight wire act between Pere Ubu, Modest Mouse and Frank Zappa which in total equals wonderful whimsy and surreal children's slides into outer space.
"The Invisible Line" is the first released song from the band, ahead of a 5-song EP to be released this spring.
