Langkamer and the rootsy porch folk sunshine of "Sleepers Two" (Official Video)

"I want to make it out alive..."

From the effervescent folksy indie rock sophomore album "The Noon And Midnight Manual" by Bristol, UK's Langkamer, the beautifully drawn "Sleepers Two" feels like porch country sunshine. For me, there are nimble illusions to indie busker punk, to classic 60's folk, to twee folk too. I thought of an amalgam of artists like John Stammers, The Pogues, John Hand, Camper Van Beethoven.

"Sleepers Two" which the band describes as "An introspective contemplation of the Myth of Sisyphus, and of how to survive Seasonal Affective Disorder whilst beset by timelessly human woes" has equal doses of rootsy charm, whimsy and askew indie rocking. It cast imagery of dancing on beach sand around campfires, 70's art films and a non-sequitur scene involving awkward lustful desire on a future Wes Anderson movie.

So there's that. Love Langkamer and love the Official Video of "Sleepers Two".

As clear and direct as the morning hours, Langkamer's second album 'The Noon And Midnight Manual' perfectly embodies the band's dextrous and anthemic brand of slacker rock. Standing somewhere between Lynyrd Skynyrd and Pavement, it takes the vast existential worries of modern life and dresses them up in rambling pop sensibilities, swerving between vibrant sing-alongs and off-kilter guitar melodies. It displays a masterful and meticulous sense of craftsmanship. Like a carefully painted miniature figurine, its minute details all come together beautifully to create a body of work far greater than the sum of its parts. It feels like there’s a mischievous spirit running through the album, something playful and nimble, dexterous and jocose, but ultimately unsettled.
