We're from Antarctica and the uplifting somber indie pop iterations of "S1MP" / "Don't Marry Me" Single

"So you're making it forever / And you promise to be mine / Are you saying now or never Either way I guess it's fine...."

People who really know me say I just like dark, depressive music and that's really not true, well, maybe partially true but not entirely true. To prove it, I am (at this very moment), vibing to the smiling indie rock tones of Allentown, Pennsylvania based We're from Antarctica. On "S1MP" the atmosphere is dreamy dance pop by way of 80's new wave meets 90's goth and twee pop. There is a John Hughes movie glitter ball showdown sense here between love sick under-dog and the jock. Love the pearly shiny sounds offset with hard punch bass and drum edges. Also, dig the vocal countenance that feels so sweetly sincere. You can tell that We're from Antarctica are true romantics at heart and soul.

Even thought "S1MP" (as press notes reveal) "tells the story of unrequited love, capturing the pain of wanting someone who doesn't feel the same and the frustration of being trapped in your own emotions" it feels gloriously upbeat in it's truthful sadness.

I love bands that don't have just one lead singer and on "Don't Marry Me" another member takes the vocal reins. AS shuffle drum beats and a sprite bass anchor this track, the distorted sort of soul pop rhythm is worked in dynamically, the vocals start: "So you're making it forever / And you promise to be mine / Are you saying now or never Either way I guess it's fine / It's getting late, I should be leaving..." you get the sense that the song is about stepping back from someone when things appear to NOT be very copacetic.

"Don't Marry Me" feels a bit darker than "S1MP" and even the jammy nature has a parlor of melancholia.

"Don't make me feel bad I'm trying to be fair

Don't tell me that your mad

When you won't let me clear the air

Let me, let me, let you down Easy

Let me, let me, let you down Easy

Let me, let me, let you down Easy

Let me, let me, let you down Easy"
