Argo and the Violet Queens and the cinematic, nostalgic auras of "It was Late"

"when the message seemed to come out to you all / from the wild eyed depressive one / captivated we would stay / though it was late / it was late..."

Swimming in the sounds, both nostalgic and fresh of "It was Late" by Argo and the Violet Queens and I am falling for the vocal aesthetic, the character of the voice, a combination of wise urbanism, side eyed stares, gazes through romantic lens and a sense of Americana / heartland rock meets alternative proto punk atmospheres, pastiche rock.

Press notes share that this Washington DC "avant-garde alternative recording project" takes influences from 50's rock n roll, surrealism and electronica that "brings to mind Brian Eno’s mid 70s work as well as Berlin-era Bowie" which is an intriguing description indeed.

"It was Late" with it's falling keys, guitar shapes and picking, rushing urgent drumming (and that beat, so compelling) creates a proto punk, art pop noirish atmosphere. It feels cinematic, it feels like nostalgic hugs.

The band shares:

["It was Late" attempts to convey the fictionalized story of a lounge band filling an empty venue through the singer's captivating live performance and intense personal expression on stage.]
