Richard Tripps and the space rock, psych folk mysticism of "Saturn Returns"

"all that we give / all that we take / all that we learn in the end / Saturn returns..."

Dipping into the beautiful indie rock mysticism of "Saturn Returns", from Richard Tripps' self titled debut full length on Perpetual Doom and Plume Records, and I feel oddly blissful, riding pretty glistening 4 foot waves in my mind. I also saw trippy imagery like those paste and cut animation that feel steam punk-esque, the stuff of Monty Python. I don't know why. It is mostly likely the amazing sonics here. There is a musical break were the synth sounds like the most vintage, black and white scratched up organ sound like peering in the past while in some 60's hippie kingdom where Tripps is the soothsayer.

Truly dig this. Tripps has a full bodied vocal countenance that plays so well off the electric guitar picked rhythms that feel like a collision between psychedelic space rock and jangle pop. Like a pilot taking you on a spacey trip against multi-colored planets, Tripps voice feels soothing and wise, a bohemian at heart, a space traveler visiting. The Pixies meets The Flaming Lips meets Comus meets The Byrds.
