"ten years at best / couple years to see the rest / burn like old flames / before they lose their spark / ten years at best / couple years / no time to rest / sell the cars / see the stars / streaming tears / or just VR..."
From the onset, "Strangest Amber Glow", by Santa Rosa, California dream pop / indie rock band Nice World, draws you in. The urgent synths, bending guitar lines, drones of sound, pushed bass lines, percussive drumming and Anna Rose's vocal countenance creates lovely tensions. At the point when more layers of grungy guitars intersect against Anna's walkie talkie vocal effect (like a recent memory or memory of a phone call) you feel like you are falling. The song becomes illusory, a story unfolding in your lap, vague poetry hidden in metaphors or actual experiences. It's funny too, because that walkie talkie moment feels like the chorus but it is not and when the upbeat outro happens, you realize this song really doesn't have one. "Strangest Amber Glow" exists like a waking dream, recollections as sun spots shining through trees blinding you.
Of the track the band shares:
[This song is about our band living through the California fires and the looming existential crisis that is global warming and the changing of our society. We are from Santa Rosa, California where over 5000 structures burned and 42 people died. A lot of the album this song is off of is about global warming and societal suffering. The last line in the song is a reference to the "This is fine" meme with the dog in the burning room which aptly summarizes how we feel sometimes.]
"Strangest Amber Glow" if from the band's current EP "Enjoy the Weather". Check it out.
