"always smiling, feeling young / too bad now your gone / but I know where you've been / but I don't know how to get there..."
It hasn't been the best of days lately (for me) but somehow falling into "Paz" by DADABE, a band and band of friends out of Getxo Spain, hit me in the best possible way. Maybe because the absolutely dense sound of choppy guitar layers and almost mournful bass and drums feels all encompassing, stripping away those aforementioned hard times like a sandblaster. Set against the plaintive, potent sound is a vocal countenance that very much reminds me of the off kilter vocal patter of Stephen Malkmus (I love Pavement).
In total, DADABE at least on "Paz" has some of the sonic D.N.A of bands like Dinosaur Jr., Yuck and Pavement. That sound with all the complex emotional cues is a wonderful touchstone to share. I will be poking around DADABE's discography for sure.

Off key but that’s alright
DADABE is a type of guitar tuning that is very popular with slacker bands. DADABE is also a very fresh band from Getxo who define themselves as "just a group of friends playing music together"and who have the indie rock technique tattooed in their name. An inexhaustible flow from which they extract electric melodies and, also, a vocal register that, in the four songs of their homonymous EP, is pitched between the frequencies of Stephen Malkmus and Julian Casablancas.
